Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, And a very merry and Happy New Year
Brothers and Sisters,
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your support and hard work. As a volunteer leader it is often difficult to manage time between work and life. We all have families and obligations that push us in different directions each day. The level of commitment that each of you exhibit is a testament to your character as a person.
Each of you has made a strong commitment in your life to the Fraternal Order of Police. In doing so, you have also made a commitment to each other. I have been blessed to be part of this fraternal organization. Sometimes we get so caught up in life that we for get to take stock in what we are fortunate to have.
Unfortunately, law enforcement officers are once again under the microscope of the Monday morning quarterbacks. These critics have their own opinions on what is right and appropriate in any given situation. They do not understand use of force levels and the officers desire to defend themselves. As of the writing, 108 brave men and woman have fallen in the line of duty in the United States in 2014. This is a stark reminder of the dangers we as law enforcement officers face when we go to work each day. In defending ourselves it is important to remain professional and to take the high road despite the actions of others. To avoid being baited into needless debates that will only produce ill feelings and not bring resolution to the issues at hand. Oh wait, you do that everyday already. Each time you respond to a domestic dispute you utilize your conflict resolution skills to make peace for others.
In the spirit of the holiday season many of you have given back to your community through your FOP Cops and Kids, Santa Cop and Christmas with a Cop event. I really think these are the best events we hold each year.
My sincere wish for you is for a safe and enjoyable holiday season. May the spirit of the season warm your heart and if that doesn’t work try a liquid refreshment of your favorite choice. Stay safe keep your head down, wear your vest and don’t crowd cover
